The new facility will double Poly-Cast Suzhou’s current footprint and support expanded capabilities and continued growth.

The Poly-Cast Co. Ltd. plastic injection molding plant in Suzhou, China, is expanding to a new facility in Q2 2017, doubling its current square footage to support consistent annual growth. The business is owned by Corry, PA-based Viking Plastics in partnership with Poly-Cast, based in Portland, OR, and Falcon Plastics, headquartered in Brookings, SD.

Poly-Cast established a plant in Suzhou, China, in 2006, supplying parts for the automotive industry. After partnering with Viking and Falcon in 2008, the plant grew, adding products for the medical, healthcare, and consumer electronics industries, primarily for international partners in China or to suppliers that sell to Chinese OEMs. Poly-Cast Suzhou’s current 21,500-square-foot facility operates 11 to 13 machines and employs more than 40 workers.

The expansion will enable the plant to achieve its goals for expanded capabilities of up to 30 injection molding machines with presses ranging from 55 to 500 tons of clamping force. It will also provide new capabilities including clean room injection molding for parts for medical devices, insert molding by vertical injection, and assembly and other value-added services. In addition, the new facility will provide expanded inventory space.

Because the new plant is adjacent to the current facility, Poly-Cast Suzhou anticipates it will retain 100% of its workforce and offer the same or lower delivery costs.

According to Viking Plastics CEO Kelly Goodsel, Poly-Cast Suzhou is coming off a record breaking 2016 and is on pace to have another record-breaking year in 2017. “The Suzhou team is seasoned and dedicated to constant improvement, which is contributing to the growth we’re seeing at the plant. The new facility will provide them with the ability to sustain that growth and provide opportunity to add new lines of business,” he said.

After the company has established operations in the new facility, Poly-Cast Suzhou will hold an open house and 10-year anniversary celebration in Q4 2017.
